Developments at Ambury in 2018 Thanks to the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust

The Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust has funded two major projects at Ambury Park Centre in 2018. The first was to replace all the original clears in the massive roof of the indoor arena building and the classroom verandas, which had become brittle, opaque and prone to leaking. Not only is the indoor arena now fully watertight it is flooded with long forgotten light.

The second project was the repair and renovation of the old Koru Care stables that border the now concreted and fully drained area also beside and around the barns. The stables have been restored to beyond their former glory to complete an attractive Ambury yard. The board of Ambury Park Centre is thrilled and deeply grateful to the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust to have these projects completed with a very generous grant.

NEWSFLASH: Topp Twins set to headline Ambury Park Centre fund-raiser

On 24th March 2018 Ambury Park Centre will hold its third ʻHorsePower – Dinner in the Arenaʼ - featuring the Topp Twins. Kicking off at 6.00pm, the event includes welcome drinks on the lawn beside the horses, a 3-course dinner served with NZ wines in the sand-floored arena, a variety of entertainment and most importantly a fund-raising auction.

The event grew from a series of celebrity fund-raising dinners where entertaining speakers such as David Lange, Richard Hadlee and Tawera Nikau encouraged guests to bid in an auction. 5 years ago it was time to relaunch the event and invite guests into the heart of the Centre - ʻDinner in the Arenaʼ was born.

ʻHorsePowerʼ was established as a campaign to generate funds for feed, veterinary and farrier care and to keep our herd of 25+ therapy horses in peak condition.

The next ʻDinner in the Arenaʼ promises to be a very memorable occasion: hosted by comedian James Elliott, who together with the Topp Twins will guarantee a fun night of entertainment.

Lynda and Jools Topp are affectionately known as NZ ʻNational Treasuresʼ. For more than 25 years they have delighted alternative and mainstream audiences around the world with their own brand of comedy and country music. No other act has such unique cross-over appeal - they are equally at home performing in front of a gay/lesbian audience or in a rugby stadium as pre-match entertainment.

In the late 1990ʼs, the Twins award-winning TV series ran for 3 seasons; in 2008 they were inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame; in 2009 their feature documentary “Untouchable Girls” won best feature at NZʼs Film and TV Awards and earned the distinction of becoming the highest grossing feature documentary at the NZ box office.

The Twins re-invent themselves on stage, changing character, musical style and gender with ease. Armed with guitar, mouth-harp and spoons, they deliver original songs, audience participation, comedy and burlesque innuendo in a fast-paced hilarious entertaining experience.

Donʼt miss the Topp Twins live – a special appearance at Ambury Park Centre.

 August 2017:
Two Important Projects  Completed at Ambury Park Centre

Sitedevelopmentb2017 Sitedevelopmenta2017

For a considerable time, the centre has had two large and costly long-term project goals in view. Alongside the regular ongoing maintenance of our buildings and farm property, has sat a need to, firstly, provide improved hard standing facilities and mud-free access around the stables and barn areas.

Secondly, to fence the huge Pinetree paddock into smaller units to improve the manageability of feed and provide safe paddocking and welfare for the horses.

Due to enormity of the costs of these projects, they have been deferred year after year. Finally the projects have been able to proceed with generous donations. The Centre us indebted to the Joyce Fisher Charitable Trust for funding the hard surfacing around the barns and to the Lou and Iris Fisher Trust, the Janet Fisher Trust and the ANZ Staff foundation for the fencing.

The fencing is completed and in use and the hard standing area around the barns is just finished. Completing both these projects is a dream come true. So, good things do come to those who wait!

Happy Volunteers

Volunteers at Ambury Park Centre in their new shirts supplied by CITY Cleaning Services Ltd.

Ambury Park Centre was delighted to receive sponsorship from CITY Cleaning Services Ltd for new shirts for the volunteer team.

As one of the volunteers said “It’s great to have a new  shirt – we’ve had the same uniform for some ten years, so it’s really lovely to have a fresh colour with the new Ambury Park Centre logo”.

A bright new teal colour was agreed upon by the volunteer team, and CITY Cleaning Services Ltd in conjunction with their suppliers Aimco and Creative Embroidery provided the new shirts.

Craig White, Chief Executive Officer of CITY Cleaning Services Ltd: “CITY Cleaning Services Ltd is proud to support Ambury Park Centre.  As our company employs and provides uniforms for over 700 people, providing shirts for the Centre’s volunteer team was a practical way of providing support.

Ambury Park Centre depends heavily on volunteers to assist the more than 80 people who attend the centre each week for riding therapy classes.

Providing the new volunteer shirts is a great way to thank these people for their time, and the shirts also help riders, parents, care givers, Ambury staff and students identify them as volunteers.”

We have a core group of dedicated volunteers who devote several hours each week to this work, but we always need more.

 About Us

The Centre's part-time therapy rides - the Remedial and Intensive Courses - rely heavily on volunteers to work with the staff member who supervises the rides. For each horse and rider we may need up to three volunteers - one leader and one or two side-walkers. We have a core group of dedicated volunteers who devote several hours each week to this work, but we always need more. Would you like to join us?

Therapy rides operate every week-day during the school term from 9.30am to 12.00 and from 1.30 to 3.30pm. We need people who can give at least an hour of their time. Many of our volunteers have been with us for years. They say it is rewarding to see the progress made by riders and enjoyable to be walking alongside the horses with a congenial bunch of like-minded volunteers. The smile on the face of the child riding will not fail to touch your heart.
